Bhutan & Nepal

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
We gather at our hotel in Kathmandu in the afternoon for yoga practices, meditation and our opening circle. You may enjoy a walk through the bustling night markets of this ancient (300BCE) city.
What to expect - Meet your group at our 5pm opening circle, our first yoga practice, Kathmandu's invigorating energy, a swim in the rooftop pool.


Day 02: Bhutan
Distance/Duration: ~ 50km / 2-3 hours drive
Elevation: Thimphu (2,334m)
Highlights: Fly to Bhutan over the Himalayas (flight pre-paid in your tour package) and soak in the peaceful energy of Bhutan while sightseeing in Thimpu. Enjoy evening Tibetan Buddhist yantra yoga and meditation.
What to expect - A spectacular flight, monasteries, yoga & meditation.
The capital town of Bhutan, Thimphu is a unique city with unusual mixture of modern development alongside ancient traditions. With the population of about 90,000 it is perhaps still the world’s only capital city without a traffic light.


Day 03: Punakha
Distance/Duration: ~85 km / 2.5-3 hours drive
Elevation: Thimphu (2,334m) to Punakha (1,242m)
Highlights: Following our morning Yantra yoga practice we drive Bhutan's second highest pass (3100m) to Punakha. Enjoy magical vistas, quaint villages, & waterfalls and visit the "Palace of Great Happiness," the second largest and second oldest dzong in Bhutan. Evening meditation.
What to expect - Stunning vistas, Mount Everest views, Spiritual places.
Punakha is the Winter Capital of Bhutan and many monks spend the winters here. Close by is the 160m suspension bridge across Pho Chhu dating back to 1637.
Day 04: Paro
Distance/Duration: 120 km / 4.5 hour drive
Elevation: 2235m
Highlights:A sunrise Yantra yoga practice followed by a picturesque drive to Paro. A day filled with Buddhist history and fortress monasteries. Evening meditation.
What to expect - Scenic drives, ancient Buddhist history, mesmerising architecture, delicious food, yoga & meditation.



Day 05: Tiger's Nest Fortress Monastry
Distance/Duration: Hike 4-5 hours
Elevation: Paro (2,200m) to Tiger's Nest (3,120m)
Highlights: Hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery (Tiger's Nest), where we meditate perched on a cliff 900 meters above the Paro Valley. Close the day with a Yantra yoga practice.
What to expect - Breathtaking scenery, invigorating exercise, lush landscapes, unbelievable architecture, yoga & meditation.
Enjoy a spectacular drive to Paro, the home of the famous Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest). Here we can climb the 900m to the monastry for meditation.
Tiger's Nest is one of the most famous of Bhutan’s monasteries, perched on the side of a cliff 900m above the Paro valley floor. It is said that Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated at this monastery and hence it is called ‘Tiger’s Nest’. This site has been recognised as a most sacred place and visited by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646 and now visited by all Bhutanese people at least once in their lifetime.
After the monastry we will explore teh charming city of Paro and its beautiful valley is beautiful, with historic forts and ruins and many sacred monasteries. Our hotel is the Tashi Namgay Resort for dinner.
Day 06: Kathmandu
Flight Duration: ~1 hour
Elevation: Paro (2,200m) to Kathmandu (1,400m)
Highlights: We fly back over the Himalayas, including Mount Everest to Kathmandu and enjoy free time to rest by the pool at the hotel, book in for a spa treatment or explore Kathmandu. In the afternoon we gather for tantric hatha yoga practices & meditation before dinner at the hotel.
What to expect - A breathtaking flight, fun and busy markets, time to rest.
Fly to Nepal over spectacular views of the Himalayas including Mt Everest. Once in Kathmandu we check in at Hotel Manaslu. The rest of the day is free time - enjoy the pool or shopping at the markets in Thamel, Dinner at the hotel and evening yoga and meditation.

Day 07: Kathmandu Spiritual Sights & Nagarkot
Drive Duration: ~2 hours / 32 km
Elevation: Kathmandu (1,400m) to Nagarkot (2,175m)
Highlights: Sunrise tantric hatha yoga practices & meditation before we explore the spiritually rich UNESCO world heritage sites of Kathmandu. Enjoy an evening drive to Nagarkot for overnight stay, known for its panoramic views of the Himalayas.
What to expect - Hindu and Buddhist spiritual sites, a bustling drive through Kathmandu, stunning vistas.
After our morning practice we explore the Kathmandu's spiritually significant UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Pashupatinath Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, Boudhanath Stupa, Durbar Square, home of the goddess Trishna Shakya embodied in a living child, and Swayambhunath (the Monkey Temple).
In the evening we have a short drive to our hotel in Nagarkot - the Hotel Mystic Mountain. Enjoy a swim in the infinity pool, & soak in the breath-taking views over dinner.


Day 08: Pokhara
Drive Duration: ~6-7 hours / 200 km
Elevation: Nagarkot (2,175m) to Pokhara (827m)
Highlights: Sunrise tantric hath yoga practices & meditation with spectacular views over Mount Everest and the Himalayas then we travel to pretty Pokhara, a lakeside town known for its serene atmosphere and mountain views.
What to expect - Nepalese culture, beautiful views, a heart opening Hindu ceremony.
This morning we hope to view Mount Everest and drive to the lake town of Pokhara, for a stay at Mt. Kailash Resort. In Pokhara we will walk the picturesque Phewa Lake & take a short boat ride to Taal Barahi Temple situated on a small island in the middle of the lake for an Aarati ceremony - a Nepali ritual where Priests offer to God the divine light from wicks soaked in ghee (purified butter).


Day 09: Pokhara and Annapurna Mountains
Distance/Duration: Sarangkot (11 km, 25 min drive)
Elevation: Sarangkot (1,600m)
Highlights: We start with an early morning drive to Sarangkot for sunrise views over the Annapurna
mountain range and Fishtail peak. We spend a spiritually rich day exploring the natural wonders of Pokhara, the World Peace Pagoda, one of Nepal's most cherished Lord Shiva statues, and an evening aarati on the lake. We will meditate along the way and enjoy a relaxing evening yin yoga practice.
What to expect - Sunrise views, a beautiful drive, city atmosphere, shopping, yoga and meditation.
This morning we enjoy 2 beautiful views - sunrise at Sarangkot, followed by Machapuchare (Fishtail) peak, and visit World Peace Pagoda, Shanti Stupa. With gorgeous, lush green mountain and serene lake views, this site offers a unique opportunity to meditate in one of earth’s prettiest and most peaceful locations. We also visit Phewa Lake and have free time for exploring Pokhara town centre.


Day 10: Chitwan
Distance/Duration: ~150 km / 5-6 hours drive
Elevation: Chitwan (415m)
Highlights: We drive to the National park in Chitwan and explore the traditional culture of Tharu village. Yin yoga and meditation complete our day.
What to expect - Nepalese traditional culture, & village life, yoga & meditation.
Today we drive to our hotel in Chitwan, enjoy a sunset walk through Tharu village and meet indigenous Tharu locals - connecting us intimately with this ancient ecosystem. Evening Yoga and meditation at the hotel.


Day 11: Chitwan National Park
Highlights: Sunrise tantric hatha yoga practices followed by a full day of jungle safari activities: jeep safari, canoeing, and bird watching. Chitwan is rich with exotic wildlife, including Bengal tigers, Indian leopards, one-horned rhinos, sloth bears, the giant gaur bison, many deer, and beautiful birds. Complete the day with an evening meditation.
What to expect - An outdoors day filled with local wildlife. Swim, yoga, meditation & rest.


Day 12: Kathmandu
Distance/Duration: ~150 km / 5-6 hours drive
Elevation: Kathmandu (1,400m)
Highlights: Return to Kathmandu for free time, and a puja dedicated to Lord Shiva.
What to expect - Lots to see on the drive back to Kathmandu, a heart opening spiritual ceremony, yoga, meditation and free time.

Day 13: Free Day in Kathmandu
Highlights: Morning tantric hatha yoga practices and meditation, then enjoy a free day exploring local markets, treasure hunting, or revisiting your favourite spots in Kathmandu. Today is the only day lunch is not included – opportunity to try one of the plethora of local restaurants in your own time.
What to expect - Yoga practice, free time exploring Kathmandu, and our closing circle. Universally, the feedback from these retreats is that it’s THE PEOPLE we travel with, and not the exotic, phenomenal, and novel locations and experiences that truly make these trips what they are. By the end of the closing circle, you’ll recognise brothers and sisters you never knew you had but will never leave your heart. Finish the day with dinner together at the hotel, sharing memories & lots of laughs.

Day 14: Departure homewards
Highlights: Transfer to the airport for your onward flight, marking the end of your journey.
What to expect - Saying goodbyes and flights onward.

Cancellation policy
Monies paid, deposit and full payment, for the Bhutan & Nepal retreat are final & non-refundable. Client initiated cancellation results in a loss of all funds paid for the retreat.
Please take out full travel insurance coverage at the time of your booking to cover you for any reasons that may prevent your attendance on the retreat, be they personal or otherwise.
In the rare event that the Bhutan & Nepal retreat needs to be rescheduled or cancelled by The Yoga Hive all monies paid will be refunded within 4 weeks of the cancellation notification, or at your request, held in trust for the rescheduled event.
